D-Link DGS-2208 Gigabit Ethernet Switch is back at $45 with free shipping, and a $10 mail-in rebate is available. This is a great deal, since D-Link makes good quality networking products, and this one has very good specs and good reviews on Newegg. It connects up to 8 wired network devices and/or computers supporting 10, 100 and 1000 megabit speeds. It supports auto MDI-X, meaning any of its 8 ports can be used to uplink to another Switch or router.

For a similar cheaper products:
- D-Link 5-port 10/100 Switch for $18, and also has the same $10 mail-in rebate ($8 after rebate).
- D-Link 5-port Gigabit Switch for $36, and also has a the same $10 mail-in rebate ($26 after rebate).
Each of these have auto MDI-X uplink on each port, have excellent reviews on Newegg, and most other stores sell them for more.

Also a cablemodem and a router deal:
- D-Link Cablemodem for $56, and a $20 mail-in rebate ($36 after rebate). Cable customers can save on the modem rental fee by supplying their own cablemodem. A few people say they noticed a small speed improvement over the cablemodem supplied by their cable company.
- D-Link Gaming Router with Gigabit for $93, and a $20 mail-in rebate ($73 after rebate). This router does not include wireless, but some people say this router performed better than others and improved their broadband Internet connectivity.
They all share the same rebate form, and it can be used for up to 2 separate purchases through the end of May.

CompUSA.com - $20 back with $200 purchase using Paypal
When you checkout with Paypal as the payment method, you get a $20 refund deposited to your Paypal account 6-8 weeks after making a single online purchase of $200 or more.

You can still use a credit card with Paypal payments. However note that special benefits you would normally get when buying at stores, such as some American Express customers which automatically receive an extra year warranty added to electronics purchases, will not be available when you use Paypal.

AbesOfMaine.com - Kodak Z812 Digital Camera for $196

Kodak Z812 Digital Camera with 12x image stabilized optical zoom, and 1280x720 30 frames per second video capture (same resolution as 720p HDTV, half the frames per second). AbesOfMaine.com sells it for $206, the cheapest anywhere, and coupon CJMDY55 gives $10 off in the cart. It has some of the best reviews we have seen for a new camera priced under $200 (Newegg, Amazon, DigitalCameraInfo.com reviews). People say the quality is similar to a more expensive SLR, but more compact, easier to use, and includes HD quality video capture.

Note, it does not include a rechargeable battery. It requires disposable CRV3 batteries (1 included), a Kodak brand KLIC-8000 rechargeable battery with a compatible charger, or rechargeable AA batteries rated at least 2500 mAh. Although regular AA batteries will fit, they will not work. Some non-Kodak brand KLIC-8000 batteries will not work, so beware buying cheaper third party brand.

Newegg.com - Belkin 1500VA UPS for $135 after rebate
Belkin 1500VA UPS for $160, and a $25 mail-in rebate is available. Most other stores sell it for around $160. Note, one big complaint about this UPS is beeping when operating on battery, which can be silenced by tapping the power button while operating on battery, but the beeping cannot be silenced permanently.

Targus HP600 Evolution Nylon Backpack on sale for $27, plus $13 for 3-day shipping for one ($40 total). If you buy more than one in a single order, shipping costs $5 for each additional ($72 total for 2, $104 for 3, etc). Other stores sell this bag for around $80 each (after shipping fees). Onecall is a very good online store with great customer service.

We used 2 of these laptop backpacks for 4 years, and still and love them. They are perfect for 15" and 17" notebook computers, but can seem too large for 12" notebooks. It has excellent padding and plenty of room for an extra battery, mouse, power cord, portable 2.5" hard drive, and a water bottle. As a backpack, it is not as stylish as a traditional laptop attache case, but its plain black color does not look too awkward especially for a traveler. Several other laptop bags are now available in the $15 to $35 range, but they are not as nice as this one.

The only complaint we heard is the rough material on the inside of the bag can produce scratches on the outside of their laptop. We had not seen that problem, but if someone's laptop really is that fragile, it seems that issue can be prevented by placing a piece of paper or a thin file folder between the laptop and the bag's interior.

Some stores sell this backpack with a tiny HP logo on the front, but ours ordered from OneCall have no logo. Having no HP logo on the bag is nice, because it does not advertise to potential thieves that a computer is inside the bag. The product's photos on Onecall are poor, but better quality photos of the same backpack product can be seen on Amazon.com.

Update (5/10): It appears this deal may finally be sold out. This deal has been available at OneCall for over 4 years now, but as of today it appears to finally be gone. Hope you got one.

Corsair 520HX 520-Watt ATX Power Supply for desktop PCs for $100 with free shipping, and a $20 mail-in rebate is available. Every other store sells it for at least $110. It has some of the best reviews we've ever seen for a power supply priced under $100, and it's rated as one of the quietest.

Note, one of the most common causes of computer hardware failues are electrical issues. Computers need to operate with constant clean power, so a surge protector (or UPS) and a good quality power supply is recommended. If you spent hundreds of dollars on computer components, better be safe than sorry by using a good quality power supply such as this one. When researching power supplies for your next PC, pay more attention to user reviews and less to maximum wattage rating.

dtv2009.gov - $40 coupon for Analog to Digital TV Converter

Next February, all television stations nationwide will stop broadcasting on analog frequencies and will only broadcast digital signals. The digital broadcasts are capable of carrying high definition video and surroundsound audio, but require some people to buy new equipment for their old TVs to work on the new signals. Most stations are already broadcasting in digital, but they are required to shut down their analog broadcasts in February, 2009.

To help people with indoor antennas ("rabbit ears") or rooftop antennas, the US government now offers a $40 coupon for a digital TV converter necessary for tuning the new signals on exising television equipment. The coupon is obtainable online or by calling 888-388-2009. The coupon is only for someone with old television equipment and:
- receives free TV over the air with an antenna, and wants to continue to get free TV, and
- does not want to buy a new television with built-in ATSC tuner before February 17, 2008, and
- does not want to pay for cable or satellite service.
If you have any of the following, then you will not be affected by the switch next February:
- Cable, Satellite, and Fiber service customers will be unaffected by this switch.
- Anyone with a "digital set top box" already receives a digital signal, and will be unaffected by this switch.
- HDTVs using a built-in ATSC tuner (for digital and HD over-the-air broadcasts) already receives digital signals and will continue to do so after February.
- HDTVs using their built-in QAM tuner, hooked directly into the cable jack on the wall will be unaffected by this switchover, since the signal is already digital.
Anyone thinking of buying an HDTV and wants to use it with free over-the-air channels using an indoor or outdoor antenna should make sure an "ATSC Tuner" is included in the specs of the HDTV.

Also, NTSC TV tuners on your PC used with over-the-air television signal will also stop working next February. Over the next 6 months there will be plenty of stores putting TV Tuner cards on sale, but avoid buying them unless they include ATSC or QAM tuners.

2.5" drives perform slower than regular size hard drives, but the 2.5" drives are considerably smaller, more portable, and designed for use inside a laptop computer.

This deal is quite risky since the quality of this brand's products is unknown, and the company has a history of leaving some rebates unfulfilled (read some rebate woes here). Also across the entire Internet we can only find one positive review on this item. Still a great deal worth considering if you were already thinking of paying $20 for a network Switch.

The kind of restaurant coupons in the book are typically buy-1-get-1-free items, and can take a few uses to recoup the $13 paid for the book.

The book also includes coupons for national chains of car rentals (valid anywhere in the country) through June 30, 2009, such as 25% to 40% off regular rates by reserving a car with the codes and/or telephone numbers listed in the book. The discounts are not shown in the book, but if you call their number and use the codes in the book, often the prices are at least 25% better than what you find directly on the car rental company's website. In addition to the discounts, they also have coupons for $5/day off weekend car rentals, $20-25/week off full week rentals, and free car class upgrades. If you're thinking of renting a car for 3 days or more sometime in the next year, and if you do not already have some kind of discount, picking up this book can save you some money.

When buying this year's book, it is a good idea to decline their offer to buy next year's book right away. A deal on next year's book should come up soon, and will be a better deal than committing to buy next year's book right away.

EVGA Geforce 8800GTS 320MB PCI-Express Graphics Card just dropped to $115 plus $7.59 shipping (a $15 pricedrop since yesterday), and a $30 mail-in rebate is available. The Geforce 8800GTS 320MB has great benchmarks compared to other cards on the market, better than Geforce 7000 series cards and almost all Radeon cards, and a great value at under $100. Most other stores sell it for $150 to $200.

This card dropped $15 in the last day, probably to help make room for Geforce 9600 cards. The Geforce 8800GTS 320MB card performs slightly better than a Geforce 9600GT 512MB card, but the 9600GT consumes less power.
