This is an "Access Point", which is the same thing as a "Router" except it has NAT (Network Address Translation), the mechanism that links your home network with the Internet. An Access Point is simply just a wireless hot spot, so you still need a router at your home to access the Internet from your devices. Access Points are useful, because they can be configured as:
  • A Wifi Access Point, extending your Wifi range,
  • A Wifi Repeater, wirelessly extending your Wifi signal, or
  • A Wifi client, connecting a computer to a Wifi network that does not have a built-in Wifi antenna.
