Details: | good deals on some laptops (repost) ![]() Lenovo has some decent deals on Thinkpad laptops with a holiday season promotion which expires December 11. Some companies prefer Thinkpads because of their superior reliability, durability, and good support. Some people (especially most technology professionals I know) prefer Thinkpads over a similarly configured Dell notebooks which typically cost $200 to $300 less. ![]() What I usually tell people is, if you want a durable laptop which can handle a lot of traveling and don't mind spending more money, look into a Thinkpad. If you want a laptop for use mainly using at home, in coffee shops, or within an office, Dell may be a better value. It is rare to find any promotions on Thinkpads, which is why I am posting this deal. ![]() Some good deals:
![]() The T60 series are designed for the business user, with longer battery life and 1400x1050 display. The Z61 series are designed more for the home user or someone who watches videos, with shorter battery life, wide screen, memory card reader, and built-in firewire input. A 14" screen consumes less power, smaller size, and weighs less, and a 15" gives a bigger screen and has more available upgrade options. All models are very durable, and come with an eraser-head pointer between the G and H keys in addition to the touchpad. Here is a good review of the T60 written 9 months ago, when the Thinkpad was twice as expensive and its CPU was half of today's performance. ![]() Note, an extra 9-cell battery costs less than an extra 6-cell battery on the 2nd configuration screen. ![]() All come with a free upgrade to Windows Vista, plus a shipping charge. Their website says you get a free upgrade (after rebate) from Windows XP Home to either Vista Basic or Vista Premium. So it appears you can buy a Thinkpad with Windows XP Home, and get a free upgrade (plus shipping) to the more expensive Vista Premium. If a Thinkpad is purchased with Windows XP Professional, you get a free upgrade (plus shipping) to Windows Vista Business. ![]() Update (4pm EST): If you want to receive a notebook computer order by Christmas, you probably need to order one within the next day or so. It takes customers about 3 weeks to receive a Lenovo order, meaning customers who order today will receive it around Wednesday, December 20. Christmas is Monday, December 25. ![]() Update (11/29): Also their Outlet has lots of great deals on older model laptops. Those are actually good deals too. |
