Details:Inspiron E1705: Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz, 17", 1GB, 80GB, DVDRW, 4yr for $899 after rebate
(expired)

(thanks, Jeff E.)

Coupon code GL0HJJPMNS0M9Z gives 30% off of all Inspiron purchases from the Dell EPP department. With this code you can configure a Dell Inspiron E1705 with 17" screen.
  • If you configure a Inspiron E1705 with a pre-discount price above $1299, you can apply the 30% coupon code and an automatic 8% discount is added.
  • If you configure a Inspiron E1705 with a pre-discount price above $2300, you can apply the 30% coupon code and an automatic 12% discount is added.
The pre-discount price is the higher price shown on the right side while configuring the notebook (the crossed-out price in black).

Example configurations:
  • Inspiron E1705 with Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 processor (1.83GHz, 2MB Cache, 677MHz bus)
  • Windows Media Center Edition
  • Express Upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium
  • 17" Wide Screen XGA+ Display
  • 1GB DDR2 memory at 533MHz
  • 80GB 5400rpm hard drive
  • 8x CD/DVD Burner
  • integrated Intel 950 Graphics
  • "(Save $50 after rebate) 4yr Ltd Warranty, At-Home Service" (you may need to scroll down on the Hardware Warranty page to find this option)
  • no Security Subscription
  • 6 Cell Battery
  • Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Wireless
  • No internal Bluetooth (it's a $20 option which some people may prefer to add)
That configuration prices to $1474 before all automatic discounts. Coupon code GL0HJJPMNS0M9Z gives 30% off, and automatic 8% discount also applies in the cart making its final price $949. And a $50 mail-in rebate is available on that configuration (the line item labeled "Save $50 after mail-in rebate" shown with the warranty, which is visible in the configuration details) making it about $899 after rebate. That is a great deal for a notebook computer with 17" screen and 4 year warranty.

Another example configuration which gives an additional 12% discount instead of 8%.
  • Inspiron E1705 with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (2GHz, 4MB Cache, 677MHz Bus)
  • Windows XP Media Center Edition
  • Express Upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium
  • 17" Ultrasharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with Truelife
  • 2GB DDR2 533MHz Memory
  • 160GB 5400rpm hard drive
  • 8x CD/DVD Buroner
  • 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
  • 3 year Warranty, At-Home Service, 30 Day DOC, PC Training, 2 Year Antivirus Suite
  • 9 Cell Battery
  • Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Wireless
  • no Bluetooth
That configuration prices to $2313 before all automatic discounts, then coupon code GL0HJJPMNS0M9Z gives 30% off, and automatic 12% discount applies in the cart making it $1425. And a $100 mail-in rebate is available on that configuration (the line item labeled as "Save $100 after mail-in rebate with Silver Bundle 3 year warranty") making it about $1325 after rebate.

The savings increase when adding a lot of upgrades with your computer, because the 30% discount and 12% discount apply to all upgrades. Each $50 upgrade ends up costing $31 after 30% and 12% discounts.

Also, you can get an additional 4% off on the final checkout page when paying with a Dell Preferred Account. Just be sure to pay off the account quickly to avoid finance charges.

Update (10/31): Also you can get an additional $50 off.

Advisory: This deal requires the customer to mail in at least one rebate. Make sure that you save a copy of the rebate form immediately, just in case they take the rebate form offline. It is also recommended that you mail in the rebate immediately after receipt of the item, otherwise you might forget to do so. And you should mark the maximum date that your check is expected to arrive, so that you follow up with the company if you do not receive the check in time. Rebates can be annoying, time consuming, and require a responsible person to follow the tedious rebate instructions. And, this involves the possible risk of the customer fulfilling the rebate requirements but the company choosing not to send the customer a rebate check for any reason. The more well-known or reputable the company is (the company itself, not the company's products), the more likely it is that you will get your rebate. If the rebate is from a company that you've never heard of, of if you question the company's business practices, chances are high that you will never see a rebate check. Understand that dealing with rebates are risky, so ask yourself if the product is worth full price in case you never receive a rebate check.
