Details:new AMD-based desktop computers
This week, Dell began producing computers with AMD processors. AMD processors have similar performance and compatibility as Intel, but typically have a better cost/performance ratio. For those interested, the Dimension E521 and slim C521 have AMD processors. Examples of some deals:
  • Dimension E521 without monitor: AMD Sempron 3400+, 512MB memory, 80GB hard drive, DVD-ROM drive, no monitor, integrated Geforce 6150 LE, 1 year warranty for $279. Or a similar slim model for $309 when de-selecting the monitor. This CPU is somewhat slow by today's standards, but could be a good deal for some people.
  • Dimension E521 without monitor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+, 512MB memory, 160GB hard drive, DVD-ROM drive, no monitor, integrated Geforce 6150 LE, 1 year warranty for $399. Or a similar slim model for $429 when de-selecting the monitor. The CPU is fast, and this is a good deal.
