Details: | Dimension 9200: Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB, DVDRW, 20" LCD for $954 (expired: 2GB memory no longer a free upgrade) ![]() If you're looking for a quality computer with 20" LCD monitor, this is actually a pretty good deal. A Dell Dimension 9200 configured with:
![]() The E6600 Core 2 Duo is one of the fastest processors available today, even faster than all other consumer AMD and Intel processors according to comparisons. ![]() The $55 (payable later) upgrade to Windows Vista Basic is actually a good deal, since most other customers would pay $100 for that upgrade (a $45 savings). Some people may prefer to configure the computer with Windows XP Professional for $99 and choose a Windows Vista Business Upgrade for $10 (payable later) is also a good deal since everyone else will be paying $200 to upgrade to Vista Business (a $90 savings). ![]() This appears to be cheaper than building a similar computer yourself. If you figure the CPU costs around $310 by itself, about $75 for a motherboard, about $100 for a case & power supply, about $200 for a pair of 1GB memory modules, $40 for the hard drive, $30 for a DVD Burner, $260 for a 20" monitor, $50 for the graphics card, and $100 for the operating system, it would cost you about $1165 for the same setup. The Dimension 9200 is a nice computer, and is one of the few Dimensions powerful enough to handle a $200+ high-end PCI-Express x16 3D graphics card. ![]() If you want to upgrade the graphics card, it may be better to buy one from another store. Newegg is expected to have a Geforce 7950 GT 512MB PCIe x16 graphics card for around $250 on Thursday morning. Unfortunately the Dimension's standard Geforce 7300LE graphics card is really not worth much, with some recently completed Ebay auctions able to get around $30 shipped for it. It's a decent card probably really worth around $50, but Ebay is saturated with people selling theirs. If you don't want the 20" monitor, a few Ebay sellers were able to sell their new E207WFP monitors for around $280 shipped (remarkable since anyone can buy one for $260 direct from Dell). |
